A ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ inspired piece created for the 2022 Milliner’s Guild Bes-Ben Competition. Sinamay button base entirely covered in hand stitched acrylic beads and polyhedral dice, with hand painted hero figurine. A crinoline dragon with swiss braid and patent leather accents sweeps around the base and back of the head creating a modern visor ‘veil’, with tall upswept wings of pleated crinoline.

Shown at the National Arts Club Bonnet Bash as part of the US Milliners Guild - 2024

1890s opulence made for display at the National Arts Club Annual Bonnet Bash. Base made from stitched vintage petite black straw braid in a low crowned style, with the crown offset towards the back of the brim. The brim has been upturned into three flutes at the back, each of the four indentations accented with a vertical strip of velvet ribbon and a natural polished tiger’s eye bead. the edge of the brim is trimmed with a passementerie braid and faceted gold acrylic beads. The crown is embellished with a large golden silk taffeta sash and inverted bow, an antique Victorian jet decoration, an antique Victorian ostrich plume, and a custom decorative hatpin tipped with three natural polished tiger’s eye beads. Lined in golden silk taffeta.

Inspired by the costumes of the character Princess Aura in the original Flash Gordon films. Two layered pieces of double sided mirrored acrylic, cut by laser. Domed central acrylic piece shaped by hand with a heat gun. Hand painted button accents at spoke points and around center. Mounted on a custom engineered wire and elastic headband for a vertical perching tiara look.

In celebration of Rose Bertin, stylist to Marie Antoinette, I created a modern interpretation of the tricorne hat silhouette. Blocked in wool felt with softly upturned sides and a shallow, indistinct crown. It is bound on all edges with petersham ribbon and embellished around its circumference with handmade layered ribbon trim of gathered pinked organza and frayed silk dupioni. At center front is a silk dupioni and veiling bow and three feathers curled into a shape to honor the historical ‘ques a quoi’ trend. The trims are completed with an extra long decorative hatpin that is capped with a large acrylic pearl drop bead. Instead of fitting the head, it perches vertically above the brow by aid of a wired kickstand and elastic headband.

Entry for the HATalk Magazine “Earth” competition - 2023

“Sedimentary” is inspired by the lines and colors of geological strata in my region. Created from a myriad selection of wool and fur felt scraps that have been joined together and inserted into a blocked form with a tall western fedora crown and asymmetrical cocked brim. All joins were meticulously stitched together by hand. Trimmed in vintage copper colored 3-ply cord. Lined in silk taffeta with a leather sweatband.
